Contraindications

- Pregnant or trying to get pregnant;
- Breast-feeding;
- Tell your doctor and pharmacist if you are allergic to Darunavir ritonavir sulfa medications or any other medications Ask your pharmacist if you are unsure if a medication you are allergic to is a sulfa medication;
- Tell your doctor if you are taking any of the following medications: astemizole (Hismanal) (not available in the US) cisapride (Propulsid) ergot-type medications such as dihydroergotamine (DHE 45 Migranal) ergonovine (Ergotrate) ergotamine (Bellergal-S Cafergot Ergomar Wigraine) and methylergonovine (Methergine) midazolam (Versed) pimozide (Orap) terfenadine (Seldane) (not available in the US) or triazolam (Halcion) Your doctor will probably tell you not to take Darunavir;
- Tell your doctor and pharmacist what other prescription and nonprescription medications vitamins and nutritional supplements you are taking or plan to take Be sure to mention any of the following: anticoagulants ('blood thinners') such as warfarin (Coumadin) antifungals such as itraconazole (Sporanox) ketoconazole (Nizoral) and voriconazole (Vfend) calcium-channel blockers such as felodipine (in Lexxel Plendil) nicardipine (Cardene) and nifedipine (Adalat Procardia) cholesterol-loweri;
- If you are taking didanosine (Videx) take it 1 hour before or 2 hours after you take Darunavir;
- Tell your doctor what herbal products you are taking especially St John's wort;
- Tell your doctor if you have or have ever had diabetes or high blood sugar hemophilia (bleeding disorder in which the blood does not clot properly) hepatitis (swelling of the liver caused by a virus) or any other liver disease or an infection that does not go away or that comes and goes such as cytomegalovirus (CMV a viral infection that may cause symptoms in patients with weak immune systems) mycobacterium avium complex disease (MAC a bacterial infection that may cause serious symptoms in;
- You should know that Darunavir may decrease the effectiveness of hormonal contraceptives (birth control pills patches rings injections or implants) Talk to your doctor about other ways to prevent pregnancy while you are taking this medication;
Interactions
Do not take Darunavir with any of the following drugs:
- Cisapride;
- Ethotoin;
- Fosphenytoin;
- Lovastatin;
- Drugs for headaches like dihydroergotamine, ergonovine, ergotamine, methylergonovine;
- Midazolam;
- Phenobarbital;
- Phenytoin;
- Pimozide;
- Red yeast rice;
- Rifampin;
- Simvastatin;
- St John's wort;
- Triazolam;
- Birth control pills or patch;
- Buprenorphine or buprenorphine naloxone;
- Carbamazepine;
- Cyclosporine;
- Dexamethasone;
- Fluticasone;
- Itraconazole;
- Ketoconazole;
- Rifabutin;
- Drugs for blood pressure, heart disease, irregular heart beat;
- Drugs for cholesterol like atorvastatin, pravastatin, rosuvastatin;
- Drugs for depression, anxiety, or psychotic disturbances;
- Drugs for erectile dysfunction;
- Methadone;
- Other drugs for HIV;
- Paroxetine;
- Sertraline;
- Sirolimus;
- Tacrolimus;
- Voriconazole;
- Warfarin;
Side Effects
Darunavir side effects that you should report to your health care professional or doctor as soon as possible:
- Allergic reactions like skin rash, itching or hives, swelling of the face, lips, or tongue;
- Dark urine;
- Loss of appetite;
- Pain in the lower back or side;
- Pain when urinating;
- Pain, tingling, numbness in the hands or feet;
- Redness, blistering, peeling or loosening of the skin, including inside the mouth;
- Right upper belly pain;
- Trouble passing urine or change in the amount of urine;
- Unusually weak or tired;
- Yellowing of the eyes or skin;
- Diarrhea;
- Headache;
- Increased hunger or thirst;
- Sore throat;
- Weight gain around waist, back, or thinning of face, arms, legs;
