Indications

Ciplox is indicated for the treatment of:

For steroid-responsive inflammatory ocular /otic conditions for which a corticosteroid is indicated and where bacterial infection or a risk of bacterial ocular/otic infection exists.
Ocular steroids are indicated in inflammatory conditions of the palpebral and bulbar conjunctiva, cornea and anterior segment of the globe where the inherent risk of steroid use in certain infective conjunctivitis is accepted to obtain a diminution in edema and inflammation.
They are indicated in chronic anterior uveitis and corneal injury from chemical radiation, or thermal burns, or penetration of foreign bodies.

Otitis externa, Otitis media and CSOM
The combination can also be used for post-operative inflammation and any other ocular inflammation associated with infection.


Ciplox is indicated for the treatment of the following infections caused by susceptible bacteria:

Respiratory Tract Infections
Acute and chronic bronchitis, obstructive airways disease (COPD), empyema, lung abscess, bronchiectasis, lobar and bronchopneumonia, acute exacerbation of cystic fibrosis, otitis media, sinusitis and mastoiditis especially due to gram-negative bacteria (including Pseudomonas sp.)

Urinary Tract Infections
Acute and chronic pyelonephritis, cystitis, urethritis, prostatitis, epididymitis and chronic complicated or recurrent UTI caused by multi-drug resistant organisms and/or Pseudomonas aeruginosa.

Skin And Soft Tissue Infections
In surgical and post-operative wound infections due to gram-negative organisms such as Pseudomonas aeruginosa, also useful in infections caused by resistant Staphylococci including infected ulcers, wound infections, abscesses, cellulitis, erysipelas, infected burns.

Surgical Infections
Peritonitis, intra-abdominal abscess, cholangitis, cholecystitis, empyema of gall bladder.

Bone And Joint Infections
Acute and chronic osteomyelitis, septic arthritis.

Pelvic Infections
Salpingitis, endometritis, pelvic inflammatory disease.

Sexually Transmitted Diseases
Gonorrhoea including that caused by beta-lactamase producing strains and chancroid caused by H.ducreyi.

Gastrointestinal Infections
Enteric fever, infective diarrhoea.
Severe Systemic Infections
Septicaemia, bacteraemia, infections in immunocompromised patients.

Ciplox-TZ is indicated for the treatment of a wide variety of infections caused by susceptible gram-positive and gram-negative organisms along with anaerobes and protozoa:
- Dermatological infections like cellulitis, breast and other cutaneous abscesses, gangrene, diabetic and decubitus ulcers;
- Ent infections like chronic sinusitis, chronic suppurative otitis media, cholesteatoma and mastoiditis;
- Gynaecological infections including prophylaxis in gynaecological surgeries;
- Intra-abdominal infections and diarrhoeas of mixed bacterial and protozoal origin;
- Orofacial and dental infections;
- Respiratory tract infections like lung abscess, aspiration pneumonia, empyema and bronchiectasis;
- Surgical prophylaxis and surgical wound infections; Ciplox OD is indicated for the treatment of the following infections caused by susceptible microorganisms:
- Acute sinusitis;
- Lover respiratory infection including pneumonia and acute exacerbations of chronic bronchitis;
- Chronic bacterial prostatis;
- Coplicated intra-abdominal infections (used in combination with metronidazole);
- Skin and structure infections, bone and joint infections;
- Infectious diarrhoea;
- Tryphoid fever;

Eye Treatment of superficial ocular infections Conjunctivitis, keratitis, keratoconjunctivitis, corneal ulcers, blepharitis, blepharo-conjunctivitis, acute meibomianitis, and dacryocystitis caused by strains susceptible to ciprofloxacin.

Prophylaxis: Infections due to Neisseria gonorrhoeae or Chlamydia trachomatis.
Prevention of ocular infections after removal of a corneal or conjunctivitis foreign body, after damage from chemical or physical agents, before and after ocular surgery.

Ear: Otitis externa, acute otitis media, chronic suppurative otitis media.
Prophylaxis in otic surgeries such as mastoid surgery.

Dosage

One or two drops instilled into the conjunctival sac(s) every four to six hours.
During the initial 24 to 48 hours, the dosage may be increased to one to two drops every two hours.

Ear
For all infections two to three drops every two to three hours initially:
Frequency should be decreased gradually or warranted by improvement in clinical signs.
Care should be taken not to discontinue therapy prematurely.

Contraindications
Epithelial herpes simplex keratitis (dendritic keratitis), vaccinia, varicella,
and in many other viral diseases of the conjunctiva and cornea.
Mycobacterial infection of the eye. Fungal diseases of ocular structures.
Hypersensitivity to any of the components of the medication.

Ciplox Eye/Ear Drops
Do not touch dropper tip to any surface or wash the dropper since this may contaminate the solution.

Eye

Acute infections
One to two drops every 15 to 30 minutes, initially, reducing the frequency of instillation with control of infection.

Moderate infections
One to two drops, two to six times daily or as often as needed.
Acute and chronic trachoma
Two drops in each eye, two to four times daily for one to two months or longer.

Ear
For all infections, two to three drops every two to three hours, initially, reducing the frequency of instillation with control of infection.

Ciplox Eye Ointment
Acute infections
Half inch ribbon every three to four hours, initially, reducing the frequency of application gradually as infection is controlled.

Moderate infections
Half inch ribbon two to three times daily or as often as needed.

Acute and chronic trachoma
Half inch ribbon in each eye, two to four times daily for one to two months.

Ciplox ICaps
One ICap in each eye/s or as often as needed.


Ciplox tablets should be swallowed whole with adequate amount of liquid.
Ciplox tablets can be taken without regard to meals.
Fluids should be taken liberally.
Antacids should not be taken concomitantly or within two hours of dosing.

Respiratory tract, bone and joint infections
Mild/moderate 500 twice daily/or 1000 mg once daily
Severe/complicated 750 twice daily

Urinary tract infections
Acute uncomplicated 500 od for 3 days
Mild/moderate 250 twice daily / 500 mg once daily
Severe/complicated 500 twice daily/or 1000 mg once daily

Infectious diarrhoea
Mild/moderate/severe 500 twice daily/or 1000 mg once daily
Gonorrhoea 250 single dose
Non-gonococcal urethritis 750 twice daily
Chancroid 500 twice daily/1000 mg once daily
Other infections 500-750 twice daily

Chronic Bacterial prostatitis: 1000 o.d. for 28 days

Ciplox-TZ should be taken one hour before or two hours after meals with a glass of water.
Adults: One tablet twice a day.

In Impaired Renal Function
If creatinine clearance is less than 20 ml/min, half the recommended dosage may be administered.

Contraindications

Ciplox is contraindicated if you have any of the following conditions:
- Hypersensitivity to quinolone group of antibacterials or any of the components of the formulation.
